So, another presentation presented in class is about Cambodia... the economics, strategy, and trade opportunities.
There are 5 sectors in Cambodia, as below :
In 1999, Cambodia became ASEAN members and Cambodia ranked 35th among 1670 countries in 2003 in terms of economic freedom. The GDP has grown gradually from time to time.
SMES's challenges :
Have better access to banking and encourage SMEs to have bank account in Cambodia so they can have loan from bank.
The most country that have investment in Cambodia is China, Mexico, Taiwan. Dominica Rep, South Korea, Philippines, Indonesia, India, and Bangladesh.
Taiwan have 3 manufacturing in garment sectors in Cambodia. But china have a lot more.
Competition from SOE (State Owned Company) is not from garments but another sectors like rubber, the green trade company, infrastructure operating companies, etc.
Cambodia maintained its higher working conditions after deal expired with USA in 2005.
2010, the export have grown dramatically, amounting more than $ 3.0 billion
The don; do all the packaging together...the manufacturing is juts the cutting, making, and trimming and the other country will mix up together.
Cambodia garment industries is still weak. But, they have good designer. So, they want to combine Asian and European styles. and also they also have higher skill labor.
They focus in Asia market and have opportunities to go to South Korea and Japan markets.\
If wanna have business with Cambodia, if you are SMEs company, maybe you should consider in Garment industry. Even there are many others opportunities also such as Agriculture and tourism. Cambodia have good hospitality in tourism also.
To have business in Cambodia need to have license from the government, especially for big investment company. The prime minister made the final decision to give access to foreign company who want to invest in Cambodia.
